What is a VPS account?

A VPS (virtual private server) is a "virtual computer" that runs on the Internet 24/7. This VPS uses the Windows Server 2003 operating system and works very similarily to Windows XP. When you access this VPS from your personal computer (or any other computer), you can use the VPS just like a normal computer. The VPS has Internet Explorer, a Start menu, system tray with clock, etc., just like a computer. On this VPS you will run software (such as Metatrader 4) that needs to run 24/7 without interruption. The primary purpose of a VPS account is to give you a 24/7 "computer" that is always on, always accessible, extremely stable, and not dependent on your personal computer's condition or Internet connection.

How do I access my VPS?

Our VPS accounts use the Windows Server 2003 operating system and support the Remote Desktop Connection. You will use the Remote Desktop Connection capabilities built into Windows XP or Vista to easily connect to your VPS using a specific RDP file that you will download from your VPS. This RDP file makes your VPS accessible with a single click!

How many copies of MetaTrader 4 can I run?

Our VPS servers come standard with 768mb of RAM. This is plenty to run 1-5 copies of Metatrader 4 on a single VPS, depending on the quantity of charts open and which EA's are being used. Some Expert Advisors use more server resources than others, but you can generally run up to 5 accounts without any problem. An upgraded model of our VPS is available with 1.5GB of RAM for an additional fee.

Do I need to leave my computer on?

Absolutely not. The primary reason for using a VPS is because it is 100% independent from your computer and Internet connection. Our VPS servers run on extremely fast web servers in huge datacenters, far away from the normal bugs and glitches of a home computer. This is why we - and most Forex traders - use a VPS.

Why does a Forex trader need a VPS?

There are two reasons why the average Forex trader would use a VPS:

1) Many Forex traders run Expert Advisors or other automated trading strategies. These automated trading systems need to run 24 hours a day on a solid and stable platform to avoid problems with trade execution. By using a VPS, you are avoiding any typical glitches or problems found in a home computer or personal Internet connection. Also, the latency/ping time is much less running from a VPS allowing MetaTrader to catch quotes and execute trades faster.

2) Even if a Forex trader uses no automated systems and only trades manually, their personal Internet connection may be poor. Perhaps you use a wireless, satellite, or dial-up service. These types of Internet connections can drastically affect the performance of MetaTrader while it attempts to place orders on the market. By using a VPS for manual trading, you are eliminating any latency or connectivity issues your personal Internet connection may have.

Does it work on a Mac?

Yes, the Remote Desktop Connection we use to connect to the VPS accounts does work on a Mac. You can download the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac from the Microsoft website.

What software can I run on the VPS?

Your VPS is like a normal computer, and you can run any software you want to on it. We recommend keeping it simple and only using it for Forex trading platforms, but technically speaking, it can run any software that a normal computer can.

What if I have problems with my VPS?

AutoSignals Questions

What is the AutoSignals software?

AutoSignals is a software program that runs on your VPS account. It collects signals that are sent by your favorite signal providers (see compatible signal provider list here) and automatically executes them for you. It supports opening new trades, modifying existing trades, and closing trades. AutoSignals will only modify/manage the trades it originally opens - it will never interfere with your personal trading in the same account. AutoSignals gives you the power to control your own money management and lot sizes and to stop missing the signals from your signal provider.

Does Metatrader247.com provide the signals?

No, Metatrader247.com is NOT a signal provider. We will never make trading recommendations. Our job is to make sure that you are equipped to automatically execute the signals from your favorite signal provider. The Forex trading signals will never come from us.

Which brokers will it work with?

AutoSignals will only work with brokers that use the MetaTrader 4 trading platform. If your broker supports multiple platforms (example: FXCM and Forex.com) your trading account MUST be set up with the Metatrader 4 platform to be compatible with AutoSignals.

How many trading accounts can it trade?

Each Autosignals installation/license can trade up to 4 trading accounts.

How many signal providers can I use?

As many as you like! However, you should be aware of the strategies and trading frequency of any signal provider you use. Be careful not to allow yourself to get into so many trades simultaneously that you risk a margin call.

Is this a managed account?

No, not in any way, shape or form. A "managed account" is fully supervised and managed by a human trader who makes trading decisions that you have absolutely no control over. AutoSignals leaves you fully in control of your own account. Signals from your signal provider can be automatically executed, but you fully control the lot sizes and money management, you can adjust stop losses or take-profits manually, or even close trades early if you don't like the trade. AutoSignals provides automatic execution of the signals, but the account is still 100% under your control and is your responsibility.

Can I control my lot sizes and money management?

Yes, there are 3 primary methods of setting lot sizes:

1) Fixed lots
     (example: 1.25 lots)

2) % of Account Risk on a per-pip basis
     (example: $5,000 account risking .04% per-pip will risk $2 per pip. i.e. 0.20 lots)

3) % of Account Risk on a per-trade basis
     (example: $5,000 account risking 2% per trade, will risk $100. A signal with a 75-pip stop loss will trade 0.13 lots.)

You can adjust your lot size / money management settings anytime you want to from the AutoSignals software. You can use a completely distinct lot size/money management setting for every strategy and trading account you are using!

Can I edit trades that are automatically executed?

Yes, trades that are executed appear in your MetaTrader 4 platform like all other trades you place. You can fully manage your trades, adjust stop losses and take-profits, close part of the trade or close the whole trade anytime you like. If you close a trade early, future signals (modifications) for that trade will simply be ignored!

How do I follow my trading account and watch the trades?

There are two easy ways to watch your trades:

1) On your VPS. Your VPS account runs the MetaTrader platform and you can view it anytime you like on your VPS.

2) On your computer. Log into your trading account using the MetaTrader platform on your personal computer and you can watch the trades without accidentally disabling or changing your AutoSignals program. Yes, it is perfectly ok to log into the same trading account from multiple computers without any problems.

Can I run AutoSignals on my home computer or another VPS?

No. Due to various reasons (support, maintenance, performance quality, etc.) the AutoSignals software will only work on the Metatrader247.com VPS service.

What if I have problems with AutoSignals?

Please contact us immediately. It is our job to fully support and assist you with any trouble you experience with the AutoSignals software.

Who is BackBay FX?

BackBay FX is an "introducing broker" for many brokerage firms, including FXCM (UK), Forex.com (UK) and FXDD. When you set up your trading account through BackBay FX, they act as an additional layer of customer support for you. You can contact them with questions about your account or to make changes on your account. (With some issues, you may still need to contact the broker.) How is Metatrader247.com related to BackBay FX?

Metatrader247.com has partnered with BackBay FX in an effort to offer our members greatly discounted or FREE VPS and AutoSignals service. When you meet the BackBay FX minimum trading volume during any calendar month, you will receive a discount or a credit for a full month of free service from MT247. Why is there a minimum trading volume to get free service?

BackBay FX receives a compensation when you place trades in your account and they use this revenue to pay for your VPS and AutoSignals service. They need to make sure enough volume is reached before they can justify this, or they would end up losing money.

What if I already have a trading account?

Not a problem! If you already have a trading account, you can simply open a new one at FXDD, FXCM (UK) or Forex.com (UK) and fund the new account. You can see more information on the Brokers page.

Does BackBay FX support any other brokers?

Yes, BackBay FX works with the following brokers: FXDD, FXCM (US, UK or Australia divisions), Forex.com (US & UK), FX Solutions, PFG, CMS Markets, and GFT.

How do I get my free MT247 services?

First, make you sure you fill out the account form at BackBay FX by clicking on a broker link from the Brokers page. Once your account is set up and funded, contact us and we'll set you up!

At the middle of each month, Metatrader247.com receives a report from BackBay FX with a list of those who qualified for discounts or free services from the previous months volume. By the end of the month, we credit members accounts with the appropriate credit for the free service or discount they qualified for. When the next monthly invoice is generated, it will use that credit before attempting to process any kind of payment.

Because of the way these credits are applied, please be aware that credits to your account will be processed within 30 days after the full calendar-month of trading volume is tallied.

Do you sell Expert Advisors?

No, we do not sell any Expert Advisors ourselves, and we do not accept payment or process payments for Expert Advisor sales. All EA's are sold directly through the sales broker (such as Clickbank, Plimus, or Paydotcom) or the vendor who produced the EA. Any questions about the sales process or terms and conditions should be directed to the vendor. You can see a brief overview of refund policies here.

What Expert Advisors do you recommend?

By nature, we here at MT247 are skeptics about Expert Advisors. Truthfully speaking, we don't recommend any fully automated system or robot be used on a large, primary trading account. We always recommend starting out with a demo account and only moving to a separate, smaller trading account after you are super-comfortable with the EA you're using. Because of this position, we really can't recommend any EA's. However, you can look at the list of Expert Advisors we test and review and look at their performance and comments. Maybe you will find one you want to try.

If I buy an Expert Advisor, will you install it for me?

Absolutely! We do charge a one-time $30 fee for Expert Advisor installation. Simply contact us for details.

What if I have trouble with an EA I am using?

There are two ways to get support for an EA you are using and having trouble with:

1) Contact us and we will do our best to look into your issue and try to fix it. We can fix or explain most symptoms or problems you experience.

2) If MT247 cannot help, you may need to contact the vendor of the EA directly for support. MT247 usually cannot help with issues with activation codes or authentication, vendor website logins, receipts, etc.
